GAJSC Approves Safety Enhancements for Power Plant Accidents

On October 15, 2015, the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) approved Safety Enhancements (SE) proposed by the System Component Failure – Power Plant (SCF-PP) work group.

SE topics include improved training and education for pilots and mechanics, enhanced data sharing, and use of new technology to help mitigate the risk of power plant accidents. The power plant SEs and associated analytic report will be published on the GAJSC website by the end of 2015.

The GAJSC chartered the SCF-PP work group in 2013 to review fatal GA accidents between 2001 and 2012 that involved a power plant failure. The SCF-PP work group is the third deep-dive into fatal general aviation accidents conducted by the GAJSC since the committee’s revitalization in 2011. The first two analyses looked at loss-of-control accidents.
